We're getting tons of questions and concerns regarding this new law. Many of you are just now learning about this and how it will affect both you personally, and us as a business. I'd like to make some points here.
First, the CPSC published a clarification to the law yesterday. They state that the law will exempt sellers of used clothing (consignors) from having to include a General Conformity Certification (GCC) with each item. They are however, banned from reselling any recalled items, to include toys. Makes sense.
Fashion Incubator is an excellent online source for the most current info regarding this issue and how it will affect our industry. They have many links for you to add your .02.. PLEASE take every opportunity to make your voice heard!
It appears the CPSC is listening to us. We are making a difference! We must continue letting the government know how portions of this arbitrary law will affect each and every one of us. See my links listed on yesterday's post if you need help finding where to start!!
gigiCreations will continue to operate. Clearly, our products contain two things: fabric & thread. Every one of our fabrics is made of 100% cotton. Thread is made of polyester, cotton, and occassionally rayon. Our only embellishments are monograms & appliques (again, fabric & thread!). If you would like information on our fabric manufacturers, please give us a shout. We'll be more than happy to provide that information. Our email is clickable here on our blog and also on our website. I have personally contacted our fabric manufacturers for their input and will post that when it becomes available.
Our hope is that by the time "Phase II" rolls around in August, the act will have been reformed. We have to do more than just keep our fingers crossed, peeps. I cannot beg you enough.. please get involved. Here is a list of all the CPS committee members.
I want to say one more thing regarding this law. It is so much bigger than the clothing industry alone. It will affect each and every one of us somehow. If you have school-aged children, you owe it to them to research this act and find out EXACTLY how it is going to affect them in school. It will.. you can be sure of it. School resources and teaching aids will be heading to our county landfills if we don't act on this. Personally, I would love for my kids to have access to their microscopes in science class so they can continue to love learning. That's just the beginning.
