I love me some fabric.

Seriously! This print has been on backorder for months and when UPS left the familiar-shaped fabric box, I knew what it was. Yea! This has such a sweet look to it.. I'm picturing sunsuit bubbles piped in chocolate gingham for baby girls, burpies, you name it. We also have the light blue match in stock. Let me know what you think!

Tomorrow's Spring!

I'm not sure I've ever been as starved for springtime as I am right now. It's so nice to hang with the kids outside in the evenings since daylight is longer. I'm really looking forward to seeing green on the trees again! Yesterday, I snapped some forsythia and brought indoors to my desk. I've really enjoyed having it right here beside me.. makes me feel a little less blah :)

Happy Spring!

Sweet Baby dresses

I love my job.. most days I don't consider it a job. It's just what I do, sewing is so much a part of me and how I identify myself. If a day goes by without having created anything with my favorite medium I am at the very least, daydreaming about my next project or possible fabric go-togethers.. seems almost criminal to call it a job.

Recently, I was handed a challenging project for a baby girl who has a pending diagnosis of spina bifida. She wears a fairly large brace daily and so you can imagine how this hinders her wardrobe... enter me. Her mother and grandmother commissioned two dresses, both monogrammed and to be classic yet, simple in style. We designed an empire-waisted dress with a long skirt to cover the brace and I added peter pan collars piped in chocolate brown gingham. A small 1" ruffle was sewn around the bottom edges and along with the monograms, they turned out really sweet.

Little 4month-old Cate will wear these next weekend to a bridal luncheon and a rehearsal dinner. I hope her mom gets some great photos of her! Projects like this one give me an honored sense of accomplishment and I hope Mom and Grandmom are pleased :o)

YEA!!

It's happening.. we're being heard! I was so thrilled to find this online today.. I'm full of hope for what the future brings. I pray that we'll continue to be heard in Washington. HOWEVER.. I'm optimistically cautious.. we cannot let our guards down. This stay buys us time to continue our efforts.

Sneak Peek.. sorta

We've been working on Spring items.. getting samples sewn, photos made, and all the loose ends taken care of. Lots of work. We're also trying to get current orders out the door and keep them just that.. current!! While amidst the typical workday mess yesterday, this bundle of string and fabric from the machines snagged my attention. It was headed to the trash can very shortly but the colors caught my eye. I love them all together! So consider this your Spring sneak peek!

good grief!

I just read another link to the CPSC's website, under their FAQ.. it appears that hoola hoops are being included in the testing! wow. So, don't expect our schools, YMCA's, summer camps, or churches to be buying a batch of them this spring. In fact, the hoola hoop manufacturers likely won't even be able to afford the testing involved in order to sell them! Well... they could afford the testing but the markup on the hoops themselves would be so costly that we as consumers wouldn't buy them! Yet another sect that can be added to National Bankruptcy Day.

Update on the CPSIA

We're getting tons of questions and concerns regarding this new law. Many of you are just now learning about this and how it will affect both you personally, and us as a business. I'd like to make some points here.

First, the CPSC published a clarification to the law yesterday. They state that the law will exempt sellers of used clothing (consignors) from having to include a General Conformity Certification (GCC) with each item. They are however, banned from reselling any recalled items, to include toys. Makes sense.

Fashion Incubator is an excellent online source for the most current info regarding this issue and how it will affect our industry. They have many links for you to add your .02.. PLEASE take every opportunity to make your voice heard!

It appears the CPSC is listening to us. We are making a difference! We must continue letting the government know how portions of this arbitrary law will affect each and every one of us. See my links listed on yesterday's post if you need help finding where to start!!

gigiCreations will continue to operate. Clearly, our products contain two things: fabric & thread. Every one of our fabrics is made of 100% cotton. Thread is made of polyester, cotton, and occassionally rayon. Our only embellishments are monograms & appliques (again, fabric & thread!). If you would like information on our fabric manufacturers, please give us a shout. We'll be more than happy to provide that information. Our email is clickable here on our blog and also on our website. I have personally contacted our fabric manufacturers for their input and will post that when it becomes available.

Our hope is that by the time "Phase II" rolls around in August, the act will have been reformed. We have to do more than just keep our fingers crossed, peeps. I cannot beg you enough.. please get involved. Here is a list of all the CPS committee members.

I want to say one more thing regarding this law. It is so much bigger than the clothing industry alone. It will affect each and every one of us somehow. If you have school-aged children, you owe it to them to research this act and find out EXACTLY how it is going to affect them in school. It will.. you can be sure of it. School resources and teaching aids will be heading to our county landfills if we don't act on this. Personally, I would love for my kids to have access to their microscopes in science class so they can continue to love learning. That's just the beginning.
